Moose on the Loose *** free crochet pattern

A friend wanted something different than an Elf on the Shelf for her little ones and requested a Moose on the Loose instead.
This is a quick pattern for an adorable little moose, intermediate or advanced/determined beginner level pattern.





Materials

Ww yarn in color choices- I used Red Heart Super Saver in black, Buff, and Café Latte

6mm safety eyes, or you can embroider

Fiberfill

F hook

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and attaching head & antlers

Abbreviations

Mr - magic ring

Ch - chain

Sk st- skip stitch

Blo- back loop only

Flo - front loop only

Sc - single crochet

Sc2tog - sc 2 sts together, decrease

3dcbobble- *yo hook, insert hook into st pull up a loop, pull loop through two loops on hook *repeat 2x, yo draw through all loops on hook

Notes


All terms American.   If pattern reads "sc, sc2tog, 2sc" it would be read as, " single crochet, single crochet 2 stitches together, 2 single crochet in the next stitch", directions are to be repeated to end of row/round unless otherwise noted.  As with any pattern, be sure to read through once before beginning, and don't forget to mark your rounds! (I use a bit of contrasting yarn) This is an original design by me, Anna Wilson 2017.

Toes x8 with black

1 - Mr sc4 (4)

2 - sc, 2sc (6) ch1, f.o.

Legs x4 with body color (Café Latte)


Attach yarn in Flo of last st of any toe

1- flo sc6 around 1 toe, continue with 2nd toe, sc6, pick up a loop from room of 1st toe worked (a sc is there already) (12) 

2- beginning with 2 loops on hook- sc 12 (12) the 1st st will be worked as a sc with extra loop.

3-4 - sc (12)

5- sc4, sc2tog (10)

6-10 - sc (10)

11- sc3, sc2tog (8)

12-14 - sc (8) stuff foot and leg lightly

15- sc to side before marker (7sc), hold leg with opening flattened, sc through both halves as one-  sc3 (3) ch1 f.o.



Body with body color (Café Latte)

Ch7

1- begin in nd ch from hook- sc5, 3sc, turn to work along opposite side of ch- sc4, 2sc (14) join, ch1 turn

2- mirror - 2sc x2, sc4, 2sc x3, sc4, 2sc (20) join, ch1 turn

3- sc, 2sc, sc4, *sc, 2sc* x3, sc4, *sc, 2sc* x2 (26) join, ch1 DO NOT TURN

4-6 - sc (26) join ch 1 each rnd end, DO NOT TURN

7- sc3, sc3 through leg and body x2, sc3, 3dcbobble, sc3, sc3 through leg and body x2, sc4 (26) join, ch1 3dcbobble is tail

8- sc11, sc2tog (24) DO NOT JOIN begin continuous rnds 

9- sc2tog (2)

Antlers with buff

Ch5 join to form a ring

1 - sc5 over ch (5)

2-3 - sc (5)

4 - 2sc (10)

5- sc, 2sc (15)

6- sc (15)

7- sk 4 sts,  sc11 (11)



8 - flatten work an work through 2 sts as one like with legs-
     *sc, ch1 turn, sc, ch1 turn, sc, ch1 f.o. 

Attach yarn in next 2 sts
     *sc2, ch1 turn, sc2, ch1 turn, sk 1st st, sc in 2nd st, ch1 turn, sc ch1 f.o.

Attach yarn in next 2 sts
     *sc2, ch1 turn, sc2, ch1 turn, sc2, ch1 turn, sc2, ch1 turn, sk 1st st, sc in 2nd, ch1 f.o.

Attach yarn in 1st set of sts skipped in rnd 7
     *sc2, ch1 turn, sc2, ch1 turn, sk 1st st, sc in 2nd, ch1 turn, sc, ch1 f.o.



Scarf with color choice


Ch41

1 - begin in 2nd ch from hook, sc (40) ch1 turn

2- sc (40) f.o. add fringe if desired



Finishing

Attach antlers to head and head to body. Add a couple sts to create nostrils.
