Mermaid Tail Blanket

I've been dying to make one of these blankets but I never had a real reason too...Florida is pretty hot so afghans don't get much use down here, but a picture of one of the many Mermaid Tail Afghans was making it's rounds on Facebook and I quickly had orders for a dew of them! (I love when crochet goes viral!)

The first designer to pop into my mind was MJ's Off the Hook Designs (anyone see the awesome Shark Afghan that went viral?).  Check out the pattern I used here: Bulky & Quick Mermaid Blanket .
 I used Red Heart With Love  and Red Heart Super Saver yarns in the blankets I made.  I used 3 strands held together with a Q hook for the body and 2 strands for the tail fin with an N or K hook (I used smaller for kids size blankets).
  For the Adult sized blanket I bought 6 skeins of With Love for the body and 3 for the Tail Fin.  I had enough left over to make a Preschool sized blanket for my Noo Noo in the end.  For the Child size I bought 4 skeins of With Love and 2 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver for the tail.  I possibly could have completed with one skein split in two for the childs tail fin, but I have left over yarn to make hats, etc with now ;)

Noo Noo fell in love with the afghan her mommy modeled... I HAD to hook another Mermaid Tail, look at that adorable face, you couldn't say "no" either.  She is posing like Ariel btw <3 

Finding something to watch on TV and lounging like a pretty Mermaid, her Synapse Hat almost looks like a sea creature!

Synapse Hat

It's here, and newly named... the Synapse Hat has been that crazy hat that I love and now it's pattern is available for everyone in my Etsy shop!  (Don't crochet?  I can make you one!)

Easy Textured Washcloth/Dishcloth pattern

My sweet grandson had me so nervous before his big entrance that I had to keep my hands busy!

Cotton washcloths and dishcloths are the best!

I came up with a quick washcloth pattern as I was overly anxious before my daughter had her cutie son yesterday! I had to keep my hands busy!!

Cotton cloth approximately 8" square

Materials

H hook

cotton ww yarn

tapestry needle

ch: chain

sc: single crochet

hdc: half double crochet

Cotton Moccasin Shoes with Flip Flop Soles (children's 11/12 flip flop)

I get creative slumps where I can't decide what to make and I look all over for inspiration. I was tooling through Pinterest and saw some cute moccasin slippers, but Florida is kinda warm for slippers... so I thought about thick felt bottom slippers, kinda durable but again really too warm for slippers.

Flip Flops are $0.98 at Wal-Mart and that's what most people in Florida wear...cotton breathes...Jute is durable.... *lightbulb flickers on

Adult size : Adult Crochet Moccasin Shoes

 *My granddaughter will be getting these soon!

Materials

*I hook
*Cotton Yarn- I used Peaches & Cream (medium weight size 4)

*Cheap Flip Flops- I got flip flops for $0.98 a pair at Wal-Mart (these are one size larger than my granddaughter wears-smallest they had- I bought a pair one size larger for the adult pair I'm making as well-I don't want tight shoes) 

*Puffy Paint - I use this to fill hole on sole

*Sharp scissors (to cut flip flops & jute)

*optional- drill with a small bit to put holes in sole (this can be accomplished with a needle as well, but I felt it was a little less labor intensive to pre-drill holes)

*large eye needle to sew jute to sole

*Twisted Jute Twine (see pic!)

*something to measure with & a Sharpie- to mark holes

Abbreviations:

ch: chain

sl st: slip stitch

sc: single crochet

mirror sc: a style of crochet that gives row work the appearance of rounds Mirror sc video (you can use regular sc if you prefer or you can learn this great stitch!)

sc2tog: single crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)

BLO: crochet in back loop only

Rsc: reverse single crochet reverse sc video

Third Loop: you will sew the toe in place through these loops third loop

4: push needle from outer sole to inner sole through next hole

6: return needle through hole it just came through

*continue around, join with a knot (will be hidden under work)

3: ch1, sc around to center back heel- sc2tog, continue sc to row end; join with a sl st (69)

4: ch1, sc around to center back heel- sc2tog, continue to sc to row end- (68) drop this part of work, careful not to unravel

attach toe:

mark off 36 stitches evenly for front of shoe place markers, pin toe in place: color change row to markers ***sew toe in place before continuing pattern  Attach toe by stitching through 3rd loop of shoe round 4 and toe edge

Sew through third loop- marker to marker

continue shoe:

pick up yarn loop from round 4

5: sc around to heel, find center 10 stitches of heel and begin with hdc2, hdc2tog x3, hdc2, sc to end of row. (65) f.o. weave in ends.

Finishing:

Cut some small pieces of yarn (approx 4 inches) and loop through skipped front loops of toe row 15 for fringe.

I used puffy paint to fill the holes left from the toe strap.  You could probably use caulk, but I had puffy paint ;)

Van the Cat *crochet pattern

Van the Cat

Van the Cat is dear to my heart and a labor of love.  My kittles are always watching me work.  As I sat around trying to decide on my next pattern I looked at Mr Bigglesworth and thought a cat would be nice!
***Pattern is untested as I type, if you find any errors I would greatly appreciate a heads up!***

Mr Bigglesworth (Bigs) and Van the Cat

Materials:

F hook (or hook needed to obtain a tight fabric)
0 steel hook (for nose)
ww yarn in your choice of colors (I used Red Heart Super Saver in White, red & black )
Small amt of black (for mouth)
pink embroidery floss for nose
24mm safety eyes  (You can always embroider this!)
20mm doll joints (you can use safety eyes, or sew in place!)
tapestry needle (to attach limbs etc)
fiberfill


Abbreviations:

MR: magic ring
sl: slip
st: stitch

sc2tog: single crochet 2 together

I use American terminology.  Be sure to read through the pattern before you begin.  If the pattern reads, "sc, 2sc, sc2tog" it would be read as "single crochet, 2 single crochet in next stitch, single crochet the next 2 stitches together".   Unless a specific repeat amount is written (ex: x3) you will repeat instructions given until end of each round. Sew tail to back of cat in location you like best.  

Attach the collar around neck of Van with a a few stitches.  

Sew smile on Van using black embroidery floss or yarn.  

Go nuts, give him whiskers or a mustache or anything you like!

Rockstar Mic - Free Crochet Pattern

My granddaughter Anna, a.k.a Noo Noo, came by and we had a sleepover last night.  We watched our usual favorite movies/tv on Netflix/Vudu,  Courage the Cowardly Dog, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost etc.
Well for those who don't know, Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost has The Hex Girls (Eco-Goth girl band) and Anna is a huge fan!  She NEEDED a microphone.  "Really Yaya, I NEED one.  Will you make me one?" she asked in her sweet little Noo Noo way...how could I say no?  I love make believe and exploring with our imaginations!

Anna picked Grape Fizz (Red Heart Super Saver) for the microphone, "and a black singing part"
I used a sport weight white yarn to stitch her name and a couple stars

Materials

small amount of  yarn (size 4) of your choice in black and main color.  I used Red Heart Super Saver, cheap and durable with lots of color choices!

stuffing (fiberfill)

G hook (whatever you need to make a tight enough fabric that stuffing won't show, stuffed hard)

blunt needle (yarn needle) to weave in ends securely

Crochet Patterns

I have been flipping through my pattern notebooks and I found a couple that I may share on here soon!  I don't wanna post them all at once... gotta get you good and hooked ;)

I have a monkey, a horse, pig, bear, (all using bulky weight yarns or combinations) along with quite a few others lol

I have also been working on my own pattern for barefoot sandals that I may make available through here as well!  They use size 3/5/10 thread and a 0 (3..25mm) steel crochet hook.

Soul Crochet Pattern

Yes you heard right, Soul.

My kids & granddaughter inspire me when I create... this is what happens when you ask your teenager, "What do you think I should crochet now?"  reply: "OOOH, I want a 'Soul' mom!".  I wasn't disturbed by this odd request because my daughter is kooky like me and that one little request opened up my imagination to all kinds of possibilities!

Make some and hand them out as quick little "spirit" lifters, as trade-able commodities or do like my friend Jamie and add a couple drops of essential oil to alleviate the stress of the day!

Small amount of yarn in Soul color of choice and a bit of contrasting for facial features, I used Red Heart Super Saver for mine

8: (in both loops again) sc2tog, ch8, sl st in 2nd ch and remaining ch sts (3 chs created) F.O. weave in end to secure.

Finishing:  Use a bit of contrasting color to create a little face for your soul :)  Fun twist, turn your soul the unside down and make face so "hair/tentacles" point down and you have a cute new twist on your soul or an adorable Squid with slight altering on last round :)

The fat just walks away... Adipose = Fat

Whovians know what an Adipose Baby is...we all want one.  They are so darn cute!  So today  I'm giving you an opportunity to have one of your own!  Don't crochet?  Here is the listing of my ready to go Adipose Baby =)

So darn cute!

Materials:

F hook (or hook needed to obtain a tight fabric)
small amount of white ww yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver in Soft White)
Small amt of black (for mouth)
6mm safety eyes  (You can always embroider this with a bit of black yarn!)
tapestry needle (to attach limbs etc)
fiberfill


Abbreviations:

MR: magic ring
sl: slip
st: stitch
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
sc2tog: single crochet 2 together
f.o.: finish off
FLO: front loop only
BLO: back loop only

Note:
I use American terminology.  Be sure to read through the pattern before you begin.  If the pattern reads, "sc, 2sc, sc2tog" it would be read as "single crochet, 2 single crochet in next stitch, single crochet the next 2 stitches together".   I like to use "invisible decreases"- use FLO, it helps the fabric lie smoother.  Stuff your project as you progress.  Unless noted otherwise the Adipose Baby is worked in amigurumi style in the round without joining. Make sure you mark your rounds, a scrap piece of contrasting yarn works great!
